Product details

The world-famous angels from Wendt & Kühn in Grünhainichen are among the most well-known products from the Erzgebirge region. 85 years ago, Grete Wendt created the first three figures. Their distinguishing features are green wings with eleven dots, a round head, and chubby arms and legs. They were already represented as a grand orchestra at the Paris World Exhibition in 1937, and their creator received a gold medal. To this day, new motifs are continually added, designed according to the original drafts. How did the idea of angels come to the Erzgebirge? What role do angels play in the history of religion and art? Since when have there been musical angels? In his new book, the well-known Erzgebirge author Ehrhardt Heinold explores these questions, describes Saxony as the land of angels, and takes readers into the Grünhainichen workshops, where the eleven-point angels are still lovingly handcrafted.
