This completely newly revised edition of the narrative poem "Helmbrecht" by the poet Wernher 'der Gartenaere' from the 13th century replaces the traditional but now outdated edition from the Universal Library by Fritz Tschirch from 1974. The Cologne-based Old Germanist Karl-Heinz Göttert has undertaken a text revision that takes into account both recent research on the history of transmission and the need for a more accessible understanding. A new translation into Modern High German and a completely newly revised commentary reveal the qualities of this harsh, wicked little tale to a contemporary audience.
