Singers need a basic understanding of the construction and function of their instrument, which allows them to consciously experience and influence their vocal development. The increased performance demands in the singing profession are leading to more risks and disturbances of the voice, which singing educators must also recognize and partially address. At the same time, the phoniatric diagnostics and therapy of the singing voice have evolved. This compendium provides an overview of historical references, psychological aspects, anatomical foundations, examination possibilities, as well as diseases and the maintenance of the singing voice. It addresses topics such as singing and speaking, age and voice, and offers suggestions for deepening vocal pedagogical work.
