Josephine scrubs the floors in the houses of white people because her family is very poor. Day in and day out, she goes cleaning with her mother. However, she loves to dance. At the age of 13, she sets out into the world. She dances her way into the hearts of people with exotic rhythms. But she is never allowed to eat at the same table as the white people. In Paris, Josephine discovers that she is, above all, beautiful, strong, and not just dark-skinned.
