The Chinese princess Turandot promises to marry anyone who can solve three riddles. Those who fail to do so face execution. However, an unknown prince takes on the challenge and finds the solution. But can the cruel daughter of the emperor truly be converted to love? The seriously ill Puccini passed away in 1924, before he could find a final scene for his opera. Michael Horst focuses particularly on this last creative period of Puccini in his introduction to the work, shedding light on the attempts to complete the opera by other composers such as Franco Alfano and Luciano Berio.
