Aby Warburg (1866-1929), founder of iconology and one of the most significant cultural scientists of the last century, was a colorful and contradictory figure who left behind a rich yet unfinished and difficult-to-measure body of work. After receiving little attention for decades, it has now become the subject of intense engagement across various disciplines. The author duo, a psychoanalyst and an art historian, presents a portrait of this great intellectual who suffered both from himself and the world, while simultaneously struggling in a productive manner.
