Eight-year-old Beni spends a weekend with his grandparents and celebrates Shabbat with them. At Grandma and Grandpa's, Beni can do anything: build a racetrack in the living room, ride his skateboard, drink cocoa with whipped cream, listen to old stories, and sometimes wonder about the quirks of his grandparents. Both grandparents survived the Holocaust and have each found their own way of dealing with the past. In this, Beni and his grandma share a secret that no one will ever know, not even Beni's mother. The story is about remembering and forgetting, order and chaos, Jewish life in present-day Germany, and the sometimes complicated yet loving interactions between generations. The narrative is illustrated by the imaginative and vibrant 3-D collages of artist Anna Adam.
