Product details
The court reporter and journalist Gabriele Tergit (1894-1982) made a literary name for herself with her novel "Käsebier conquers Kurfürstendamm," published in 1931. Until 1933, the daughter of Siegfried Hirschmann, the founder of the German Cable Works, primarily published reports, feuilletons, and articles in various German-language newspapers. In March 1933, Gabriele Tergit narrowly escaped an SA raid in her apartment. Shortly thereafter, she left Germany with her husband, Heinz Reifenberg. After traveling through Czechoslovakia and Palestine, she arrived in Great Britain in 1938 and settled in London, where she worked until shortly before her death as the secretary of the German P.E.N. Center for German-speaking authors abroad.
