Diana Wang has interviewed thirty survivors of the Shoah, who came to Argentina as children, for the first time and compiled their memories in this book. Their accounts begin just before World War II and recount carefree childhoods in various European countries, before their struggle for survival began in ghettos, concentration camps, and hiding places in wells, attics, or forests. Some children lived under false identities with often Catholic families who passed them off as their own children or relatives. To this day, they speak with deep emotion about the courageous actions of their Jewish and non-Jewish helpers, who risked their own lives to save theirs. After liberation in 1945, everyone faced the arduous search for their own identity, for surviving relatives, and for their lost childhood. But this also happened in Argentina.
