Product details

Henryk Grynberg, one of the most important Jewish-Polish authors of contemporary times, wrote three major narratives of unique expressiveness between 1965 and 1970: "The Jewish War," "The Victory," and "Fatherland." They span the period from the flight from mass deportations in occupied Poland in the summer of 1942 to the year 1967, when politically driven anti-Semitism took hold of the countries of the Warsaw Pact following the Six-Day War. In particular, the title story of the collection, which is among the "100 Greatest Works of Modern Jewish Literature," highlights what has long remained a blank spot in the West-focused memories: the everyday life of survivors in the then People's Republic of Poland. With this volume, which for the first time presents the three narratives in chronological order, a memory is opened that serves as the key to a deeper engagement.
