The banker and patron Hugo Simon (1880-1950), now almost forgotten, was one of the key figures of Berlin life during the interwar period. The diversity of his cultural, political, and economic interests, along with his associated commitments, made Hugo Simon the center of a unique network. This is clearly illustrated by his two residences: the villa in Berlin-Tiergarten, which was destroyed in the war, and the estate in Seelow in the Oderbruch. Both places were not only private refuges but also social meeting points that brought people together; exhibition spaces that showcased modern and classical art; experimental fields for innovative agricultural methods in Seelow; and stages for semi-public cultural events and political discussion forums. Against this backdrop, the life and work of Hugo Simon should be made visible again.
