In the Museum for Franconia in Würzburg, a systematic inventory of all Jewish ritual objects was conducted for the first time in 2016, many of which had been confiscated during the November Pogrom of 1938 in Lower Franconia. A research project has since clarified the origins of numerous items, including Torah ornaments, Hanukkah menorahs, Seder plates, and much more, originating from seven synagogues in the region. The contributions highlight that a key objective of the November Pogrom organized by the Nazi state was the theft of Jewish property and the associated enrichment, which also benefited many museums. At the same time, they explore the question of why the systematic and thorough examination of these Judaica has been neglected for such a long period, using Würzburg as a case study. Finally, an extensive catalog section documents the objects.
