Circumcision is a topic of controversial debate: for some, it is an act of bodily harm, while for others, it is an indispensable ritual of religious tradition. In Judaism, it is the sign of the covenant between JHWH and Israel, and in the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church, the circumcision of Jesus was commemorated until the liturgical reform. This volume explores the subject from biblical and liturgical studies, Judaic, theological, art historical, legal, and medical perspectives.
