Hans Küng demonstrates that belief in God and modernity can coexist, despite increasing individualization, rationalization, and pluralization, as well as the declining significance of religion. He reflects historically and systematically on the question of God in modernity. The highly complex issues become more understandable even for non-theologians, as Küng consistently references influential figures, including believers and atheists, philosophers and theologians: from Descartes and Pascal to Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, and Karl Barth.
