Hagar is a strong, independent, theologically gifted figure, as shown by the examination of her portrayal in Genesis 16 and Genesis 21. Particularly in Genesis 16:13, her high theological competence is evident, as well as the promises made to her, which are analogous to the so-called "patriarchal promises," setting her apart from other secondary female characters. In comparison with other texts from the Sarah(Abraham) cycle, it becomes clear that Hagar stands on the same level as Abraham. She is closely connected to the events of the promise and the salvation history of Israel, thus having a significant influence on the identity formation of the biblical people of Israel.
