The book presents the image of Moses as understood by the rabbis (circa 70-1000 AD), organized around central themes. This is done in comparison with biblical statements and those from Judaism of the Second Temple, often contrasted with patristic statements about Moses. This highlights the reception of a significant biblical figure and makes the ideals of the rabbinic movement visible. At the same time, central theological themes such as the concept of God, revelation, election, and salvation history are illuminated, many of which were formulated in conscious contrast to Christian statements.
