Unlike the liturgical books for the celebration of the Holy Mass, the Schott Missal allows laypeople to follow all the texts of the Catholic Eucharistic celebration, thereby gaining a deeper and more conscious access to the liturgy of the service. Additionally, it helps the hearing impaired to follow the service accurately by reading along. It serves as a practical aid for all clergy, lay ministers, and volunteers in church service, from the pastor to the cantor, in preparing for worship. The Schott Missal was first published by Herder in 1884, edited by the Beuron Benedictine monk Father Anselm Schott. The primary aim at that time was to make the Latin texts of the Holy Mass accessible and understandable in German. The Schott is still published today by the monks of the Benedictine monastery in Beuron. The Schott contains the original texts of the Mass.
