Product details

To today's visitor of the Namib Desert, it may seem unlikely – yet there is clear evidence that in past centuries, people lived there and sustained themselves as nomadic herders and hunters: traces of settlements in the form of stone circles. Richard Speich has spent more than ten years intensively studying these archaeological phenomena and has summarized the essence of his own research and existing scholarly literature in his book, reflecting the current state of knowledge. What forms do these phenomena take, and what social and economic insights about the inhabitants of that time can be derived from them? How old might these relics be? This work also reveals to the interested layperson various aspects of these initially puzzling phenomena, which travelers may encounter in several places. Additionally, the book contributes an important piece to the historiography of Namibia.
