What the past has to tell us: "I had a wonderful life," says Arthur Kern, referring to his childhood in Vienna - until that moment in 1939 when he is abruptly separated from his family at just ten years old. In the hope of protecting him from the Holocaust, his Jewish parents send him away on a children's transport to a foreign land - a traumatic experience for the ten-year-old. Although he manages to escape to America via France, he will never see his family again. Sixty years later: During a visit to the Vienna apartment of his childhood, Arthur meets eleven-year-old Lilly Maier.
