Splitter dedicates a six-volume deluxe edition to the master of science fiction. H.G. Wells is, alongside Jules Verne, not just one of the pioneers but the progenitor and classic of modern science fiction literature. Some of his books are key works of the utopian future novel, such as "The War of the Worlds," "The Island of Dr. Moreau," and of course, "The Time Machine." Over the decades, they have been adapted, interpreted, copied, quoted, and even parodied countless times. "The War of the Worlds" alone is an extremely popular subject, especially in comics, and has likely been reimagined in the style of each respective era – from Orson Welles' legendary radio adaptation, which allegedly caused mass panic in the USA in 1938, to Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day" 1 & 2 (not to forget Tim Burton's "Mars Attacks!") – to the point where the original creator often takes a backseat.
