Pilgrimage Route through Sweden
The St. Olav Way through Sweden (S:t Olavsleden) stretches from one coast to the other and is 580 km long. It is a pilgrimage following in the footsteps of Saint Olav. Nidaros, the old name of Trondheim, was one of the four most important pilgrimage sites of the Middle Ages, alongside Santiago de Compostela, Rome, and Jerusalem.
The route through Sweden has been made accessible to modern pilgrims since 2013. It not only follows the ancient travel and trade routes between Sweden and Norway but also traces the final war path of Olav, a Viking warrior converted to Christianity, who was determined to subjugate Norway to his will after being exiled.
This first German hiking guide to the Swedish St. Olav Way includes:
- 31 described stages
- Partial routes
- Smaller maps of the entire route, including Yttre-leden (1:50,000)
- City maps
- Elevation profiles
