Hilden, the town at the foot of the Bergisches Land, was once dominated by the textile industry, metalworking, and leather manufacturing. In addition to industry, agriculture has always played a significant role in Hilden. This photo book documents everyday life in Hilden between 1900 and 1960 through around 200 mostly unpublished images. The vibrant photos, which come almost exclusively from private collections, depict scenes from work and business life, celebrations and festivals, as well as school life. Images of the many clubs in Hilden, such as sports and music associations, along with numerous portraits of Hilden's citizens, evoke memories of times gone by. Sabine Jürgens has spoken with many long-time residents of Hilden and selected the most beautiful everyday photographs. She invites the reader on an exciting journey of discovery into the history of this charming town.
