Product details
Johannes V. Jensen (1873-1950) tells in his stories from Himmerland about a lost world. In twelve tales, with which he first emerged as a writer in 1898, he focuses on individual protagonists from a pre-industrial peasant village society. Jensen describes the archaic conditions and living situations of his characters with delicate tenderness and touching empathy: we meet mercenaries, maids, heirs, the veterinarian, and the blacksmith, learn what happens in the village on New Year's morning, and discover the story of Thomas from the Brückenhof. The world that Jensen brings to life before our eyes is that of his own childhood. He portrays his homeland without resentment, without idealization - solely to capture it in literature and make it immortal. The village stories and life portraits are depicted with a sharp eye.
