At the beginning of the 19th century, Pomerania was one of the first German regions to show interest in the spoken language of the area. The call to the population to capture the regional language was supported by numerous pastors. For instance, Joachim Daniel Rosenkranz, who became the pastor of Altefähr in 1839, compiled a representative collection of over 200 proverbs and sayings, some of which are still alive today. Renate Herrmann-Winter discovered, translated, and published them. This book presents them for the first time. It is remarkable how enduring many of these vivid expressions are and how they still play a role in everyday language.
