Ruling dynasties that directed the fate of their subjects for centuries held particular significance for their political, economic, and cultural developments. There remains a great interest in their representatives, especially since they continue to serve as important figures of identification for regional consciousness. The dynasty of the Griffins, which has Slavic roots, ruled over a considerable area along the southern Baltic coast. Its sphere of influence underwent significant changes from the 12th to the 17th century, but the Oder estuary soon emerged as the core region. In individual portraits, Dirk Schleinert presents 30 male Griffins in the context of their time, highlighting their special importance for Pomeranian history.
