Product details

As a port city, home to a shipyard, a university location, and a site of world-class cultural heritage, Wismar has a diverse character that has developed over nearly 800 years. Key influences include its early membership in the Hanseatic League and a long Swedish occupation. Brick Gothic architecture and merchant houses form a cohesive ensemble in the old town center. Modern architecture, such as the founders' center, demonstrates that the city is not stuck in the past. Like Wismar, Poel also became Swedish territory after the Thirty Years' War and is closely linked to the city. The island serves as a summer retreat for many. Reno Stutz, who has known Wismar and its surroundings since childhood, playfully peeks behind some doors and can tell stories from both the street side and the backyard. The photographs by Thomas Grundner masterfully showcase Wismar and the island of Poel.
