In particular, the mountainous region around the Norwegian National Park Rondane provided Harald Sohlberg (1869-1935) with endless inspiration for numerous studies and watercolors that later influenced his landscape paintings. This overview volume introduces a prominent representative of Nordic painting, distinguished by his expressive images. One of his most famous works, "Winter Night in the Mountains," is examined in a new context, along with lesser-known aspects of Sohlberg's oeuvre, which also includes street scenes. Particularly captivating in his works is the absence of people, not least because their traces always seem to be present.
