Product details

The second publication on a private collection from southern Germany completes the perspective on the development of German painting in the 19th century that began in the first volume. The focus of the collection, which consists of paintings, drawings, and watercolors, is the art of the Munich School. It is represented by artists such as Spitzweg, Piloty, Defregger, and Sperl. Particularly noteworthy are Spitzweg's well-known works "Peace in the Land" and "The Lovesick Provisional," both highlights of the later Biedermeier period, as well as a rare genre painting by Karl Theodor von Piloty, the famous teacher of the Munich Academy. Defregger, one of his students, is represented in the collection with the main work "The Fist Pushers," a typically narrative painting with Tyrolean subject matter. Equally impressive are a flower still life from the 1880s and two additional scenic works by Johann Sperl.
