Yugoslavia, 1943. A small, scattered group of vigilant, desperate partisans flees into the woods after raiding an ammunition depot of the Italian occupiers. Their loot: dynamite and detonators for the resistance. One dies for another so that the rest can continue fighting another day. Among them is the young Andrej, whose village in Slovenia was razed to the ground by the fascists, and who has found like-minded individuals among the similarly scattered Serbs and Croats. But the life-saving wooden bridge has been swept away by the flood, and the pursuers are not far behind.
