Product details

Even in the GDR, there were young rebels. In the 1960s, hair grew longer and clothing became more colorful. Especially among young people, there was a longing for a different and peaceful world. The peace emblem became a trademark of the blues enthusiasts, while punks shattered aesthetic norms with their portrayal of ugliness. Eventually, heavy metal also captured large segments of the youth, not only in Berlin, Dresden, or Leipzig, but also in the provinces. In this volume, individuals aged 45 to 80 recount the story of their youth culture in Stendal from the 1950s to the 1980s. Contributions from Anne Hahn, Wiebke Janssen, Michael Rauhut, Sven Werner, and Wolf-Georg Zaddach frame the stories told in the portraits and contextualize some of the described scenes, thus tracing the history of youth culture in the GDR.
