At the beginning of the 20th century, this work by the young Albert Schweitzer has since become a theological classic. It marked the conclusion of 150 years of historical-critical research and set a new beginning. It makes the history of Jesus research, this epochal "act of truthfulness of Protestant Christianity," so transparent that the personal characteristics of the contributors are highlighted just as much as their substantive significance in this discourse.
