History of Venetian painting
German, Günter Brucher, 2019Product details
Paolo Veronese and Jacopo Bassano are among the great masters of Venetian painting in the Cinquecento. Therefore, the main focus of the book is on numerous work analyses that have largely been overlooked in the literature, which are based on considerations of iconography, structure, color, light, and image time. Veronese's paintings are dominated by the style of the late Renaissance. The artist is famous for his preference for festive and cheerful compositions with mythological and biblical content. Bassano can be seen as an artistic counterpoint to Veronese. Since the 1960s, he has been moving away from his luminaristic color palette in favor of a darker, more subdued coloring. Nevertheless, religious themes, also shrouded in darkness, still play a significant role in his works.
