Preschool children typically have a well-understood spoken language, possess a sufficient vocabulary, and use largely correct grammar. They can therefore communicate easily with their surroundings. However, many find it difficult to break down what they say into individual words, syllables, and sounds. In school, they are expected to quickly understand that sounds are represented by specific symbols, the letters. This completely revised training program, now in its seventh edition, offers a variety of exercises through which preschool children learn to recognize the phonetic structure of spoken language in a playful manner (phonemic awareness). This significantly facilitates their subsequent acquisition of reading and writing skills in school. The program begins with listening games to practice attentive listening, continues with rhyming exercises, and then introduces the units of sentence, word, and syllable. Finally, the initial sound and individual sounds in words are made conscious. The training program spans a period of 20 weeks and is to be conducted in daily sessions of 10 minutes in small groups with preschool children. In the 7th edition, the work is even more focused on making it easier for educators to implement the program practically. Greater emphasis has also been placed on using phonetically accurate word materials in the exercises. The accompanying picture cards are now attractively colored and made from more durable material.
