Sixteen-year-old Edmée must leave Brussels after her father's death and move to her relatives in the Flemish province. It quickly becomes clear that the girl from the city has different ideas about life than her conservative family members. Edmée is dominant, spoiled, and very aware of her effect on men. Two of her cousins succumb to her charms, believing that she belongs to them alone. This leads to discontent among the men in the family.
