More than a million people in Germany are affected by stalking and cyberstalking each year. Therefore, competent counseling and support for stalking victims is becoming increasingly important. Potential contacts for stalking victims include employees of counseling centers, psychotherapists, general practitioners, psychiatrists, police officers, and justice officials. Despite the different contexts in which professional contact with stalking victims can occur, certain basic rules and procedures regarding the health and safety of the victims must always be observed. The first part of the guide presents practical, relevant findings from current stalking research for various professional groups, presented in an easily understandable manner that does not require specific prior knowledge. The process of a one-time consultation is also outlined.
