The therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following chronic trauma presents a challenge. This is due, on one hand, to the severity of the psychological late effects and associated problems, and on the other hand, to specific difficulties and obstacles that arise in the consistent implementation of empirically supported treatment knowledge. The volume describes in detail and in a practical manner the cognitive-behavioral approach to PTSD, taking into account comorbid disorders and symptoms. The manual provides assistance in the case-specific assessment and treatment of dominant automatic thoughts and beliefs, as well as associated emotions that have previously prevented the integration of the trauma for the patients. The therapeutic work with dominant post-traumatic cognitive-affective reactions, such as feelings of shame and guilt, is treated in detail.
