The theory of systemic equilibrium offers nursing a new approach to families and alternative forms of living together that provide important social support. The application of the theory is demonstrated in nursing and crisis situations involving acute somatic and mental illnesses, chronic conditions, and in the care of dying individuals and their families, as well as in the care of children and in nursing and midwifery education. The book encourages caregivers to understand their own families more consciously and to support the families of patients through care and counseling. Family- and environment-oriented care promotes beginners in the profession to understand their own families more consciously and reflectively and to approach clients and their families more professionally.
