Ideokinesis' was developed in the 1920s by Mabel Elsworth Todd (The body thinks with you) to improve muscle coordination. To this day, this approach remains unique in that it relies on the power of imagination to reshape neuromuscular patterns of posture and movement. André Bernard (1924-2003) was one of the main proponents of Todd's approach. As a professor at New York University, he has been passing on ideokinesis to generations of dance and drama students since 1966. Some later became teachers of this method themselves. In 1986 he introduced Ideokinesis for the first time in Europe and taught summer courses in Switzerland and Germany until the year 2000. This book contains an interview with André Bernard, a description of his method of working, and self-study workshop protocols illustrated with pictures.
