How do daycare centers implement the conceptual demands of early childhood democracy education? This book presents the findings of a three-year research project on this question. How are the concepts of democratic participation required by Section 45 of the Social Code Book VIII implemented by childcare facilities? Can preschool children understand democracy? And: How actively do they practice democracy? In other words: What happens to the conceptual demands of early childhood democracy education in the practical setting of daycare centers? The research project "Democracy Education in Daycare Centers" has explored these questions. Over a period of three years, six daycare centers that implement the concept "The Children's Room of Democracy" were studied in detail. The results show how democratic participation is practiced and under what conditions it is particularly successful.
