Universities have long been imparting cross-disciplinary key qualifications. The promotion of intercultural competence is one of the most ambitious goals of our time. Many students are already obtaining specialized degrees or certified additional qualifications. However, relevant experiences from teaching have not yet been systematically evaluated, and comprehensive didactic concepts are in short supply. The question still remains how to teach intercultural communication and competence in a way that results in learning processes leading to scientific expertise and practical skills. As the handbook demonstrates, this task requires theoretical, methodological, and didactic know-how, a dose of imagination, and the courage to reform institutional structures as well as the professional actions of all involved.
