Product details

In an obituary for Alfred North Whitehead, F. S. C. Northrop wrote: "Aside from Leibniz and Aristotle, few scholars have touched upon so many fields with such originality, precision, and depth." Religion in the Making - the original English title - consists of four lectures that Whitehead delivered in 1926. In the same perspective as he had analyzed the development and impact of modern science in the Lowell Lectures given a year earlier, published under the title Science and the Modern World, he pursued the goals in How Does Religion Arise? to "provide a concise analysis of the diverse factors in human nature that interact to give rise to a religion, to depict the inevitable transformation of religion in relation to the transformation of knowledge, and particularly to draw attention to this.".
