It all begins with a strawberry ice cream that tastes so disgusting that it literally gets stuck in the throat of the child narrator. His father quickly kills the ice cream man. A murder that sets off a chain of events, developing a grotesque tragedy in its fateful inevitability. The disturbing and inextricable shift in levels propels the narrative forward at high speed. The carousel of childish malice brilliantly recalls the wondrous world of growing up and its brutal violence. After the father is sentenced to 25 years in prison instead of 15 due to a deliberate false statement from the narrator, a final twist occurs when the ice cream man's wife makes her appearance.
