The stories titled "How much, darling?" are more than just something new from Artmann. They represent a new Artmann. He no longer uses that exquisite language or beautiful form. Instead, he embraces what has previously been avoided as un-aesthetic: the pathos and platitude, the coarse drasticity and the melodramatic. And this, of course, is presented as a linguistic experiment, as a juxtaposition of various living and dead languages. There are Agneta Tigges and El Zorro, the morose Moreau and the sobbing Justine, a half-baked pseudo-Lindbergh, and a bartender with Guntersachs sideburns.
