Damage from surges has significantly increased in recent decades due to rapidly changing technological structures. This issue is also addressed in the field of standardization with the extensive series of standards DIN EN 62305 related to lightning protection and the newly released standards DIN VDE 0100-443 and DIN VDE 0100-534 in the area of surge protection, published in autumn 2016. This book deals in the first part with the fundamentals of external and internal lightning and surge protection. The second part focuses on the profound changes in the new standards DIN VDE 0100-443 and DIN VDE 0100-534, as well as their practical implementation, which are presented and commented on. The topics covered include: fundamentals of lightning and surge protection, lightning parameters, lightning formation, and design parameters for lightning protection classes.
