The understanding of the positive functions and the special relevance of a trusting, good relationship between client and counselor has also increased research interest in the factors that contribute to effectiveness. This paper aims to make humor more tangible, define it, and analyze its facets, theoretical framework, and functions. Of particular interest are the questions of what humor can actually achieve and whether those who possess humor are better able to cope with stressful circumstances. If this is the case, the next question is: Can humor be trained? To address this, only findings from the professional literature will be used.
