Gertrud Caspari primarily depicted motifs from the immediate environment of childhood. This is also true for the present volume: On the night of the fourth Advent Sunday, the toys suddenly come to life. Plum dolls, harlequins, thumbelinas, flower children, Little Red Riding Hood, Tyroleans, Snow White, the Pied Piper, Kasper, and wild animals celebrate a nocturnal festival. The unfinished manuscript, found in her estate, presents the existing text along with numerous watercolor illustrations, preliminary drawings, and sketches. The images showcase many examples from the figurine world of the Grünhainichen workshops of the company Wendt & Kühn, with whose designer Grete Wendt Gertrud Caspari was friends. This first edition connects with Caspari's previously published book "The Living Toy," which appeared in 1903.
