Humans and forests have formed a community of fate up to our days. While in earlier centuries economic survival without forests was impossible, today sustainably managed forests ensure the protection of natural living conditions, nature-oriented recreation, and diverse economic benefits for people. The type and form of forest use have changed significantly over time. Today, young people can hardly comprehend the transformations that the older generations among us have witnessed in the forest. This book invites readers to take a walk with people through the forests of their time. The focus is not on trees and forest landscapes, but on the people involved. It is their relationship with the forest that has changed over time and has also reshaped the forest itself. Therefore, the images in this volume also tell the story of the different eras of forest use. They are striking images that depict people in their living and working environments in and around the forest.
