Product details
I will no longer be treated as a fool, scolds the hunting assistant Josef B. around 1900 about his treatment and his confinement in psychiatry. The accompanying book to the traveling exhibition of the same name recounts his fate as a psychiatric patient, as well as that of 30 other women and men who came into contact with the psychiatric system in Tyrol, South Tyrol, and Trentino between the 1830s and the 1970s, for shorter or - more commonly - longer periods of time. Illuminating the narrative level of the patients and tracing their psychiatric care and support, their stories are told in the chapters titled: examining, treating, confining, killing, working, eating, educating, and sending. A special focus is placed on the perspective of the patients, who comment on their existence in the institution through diaries and letters.
