Tourism transforms the built environment in which we live. This is particularly true for urban tourism. However, this influence has been scarcely explored from the perspective of architecture and urban planning. For architects and planners, tourism is often an unpopular area of focus. They associate tourism with Disneyfication and commercialization, preferring to concentrate on the construction of landmarks, hotel resorts, and visitor guidance systems. Jana Richter's study fills this research gap and thus establishes tourism as an urban planning opportunity. The architect and urban planner examines the interactions between tourist and urban spatial functions using Berlin as a case study. Richter's starting point is the review of spatially relevant approaches, particularly in the social and cultural sciences. Using Berlin as an example, the study highlights the increasing significance of urban tourism.
