This introduction to Old Spanish fills a publication gap that has existed in the German-speaking world for 35 years. The focus of the presentation is on the internal language history, addressing developments in phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary, starting from Classical Latin through Vulgar Latin to Medieval Spanish. Furthermore, the characteristic features of Old Spanish are illustrated through the presentation and commentary of texts that represent different stages of development and text types.
